Audi recently unveiled an absolutely wild-looking design study by posting a trio of photos and a few sentences of text on its Facebook page, a rather unusual way to reveal a car. Regardless of how it debuted, the new Q6 E-Tron Offroad Concept is an all-electric beast that looks like it’s ready for just about anything. Details about this vehicle are scarce, but here’s what we know.

The Audi Q6 lineup is being used to showcase what we should expect from future Audi vehicles, and it is very impressive.
Portal Axles Provide Incredible Ground Clearance
Unfortunately, the four-ring brand shared very little information about this design study, other than hyping the vehicle’s excellent off-road capabilities that are enabled – at least in part – by ground clearance-enhancing portal axles. Thanks to special gears, this drivetrain design puts the half-shafts above the centerline of the wheel hub. By shifting everything up and out of the way, you gain several additional inches of precious ground clearance (though Audi did not share how much this vehicle has been lifted), which means you’re far less likely to scrape the vehicle’s belly or get hung up on obstacles while tackling your favorite trails.
Giving this off road-focused concept vehicle even more capability is a set of exceedingly aggressive-looking Venom Power Terra Hunter R/T tires. These rubber doughnuts are also fitted with studs for enhanced traction on icy surfaces.
This Audi’s bolstered ground clearance is particularly notable when you take a peek at the gap between the top of the tire and the wheel opening. This distance is massive and gives you a good look at some of the suspension components, which have also probably been reinforced to withstand the punishment delivered by hard-core wheelin’.
What Else Can We Glean?
Audi
Studying the trio of images shared by Audi, we can see this Q6 E-Tron Concept is of the Sportback variety, meaning the roofline slopes downward at the rear for more exciting proportions. This machine is also painted black and appears to be gussied up with some sort of striated wrap. The look is subtle but interesting. Additionally, much of the exterior trim, including the front-mounted four-ring logo has been blacked out. And then there are the almost comically gigantic fender flares to help contain those gigantic tires, though when viewed from the front, you can see rubber sticking out well beyond the fender lips.
This concept also features some interesting lights. There’s a cluster of what appears to be five LED assemblies on each lower corner of the front bumper, but that’s not all. Bringing to mind an older Jeep Cherokee, this Audi also seems to have two other lighting assemblies on the front fascia, one set immediately above the clusters of five and another higher still at the leading edge of the hood. Turning inky darkness into high noon, there are yet more lights mounted to what looks like a roof rack.
Sharing Is Caring
Audi
The Q6 E-Tron Offroad Concept looks great and is probably incredibly capable, but the bad news is this is just a design study, and it is not – and probably never will be – available as a production model.
Audi shared essentially zero mechanical details about this Sportback concept car, but it’s a good bet that much hardware is shared with the conventional Q6 E-Tron. It’s reasonable to assume this vehicle also has a battery pack with a gross capacity of 100 kilowatt-hours, which provides an EPA-estimated 307 miles of range in the all-wheel-drive Q6 E-Tron when fitted with 19-inch wheels. This machine also has dual electric motors that provide 456 peak horsepower, enough to blast from 0 to 60 mph in a scant 4.9 seconds.
